At the recent Opening Ceremony of the 3rd Taiwan Strait Elite Talent Festival, Kim Suk Ki of Quanzhou Silicon Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. shared his entrepreneurial story as an overseas talent representative.
Mr. Kim is a senior expert in the semiconductor industry and a key figure in the Korean electronics industry who received his Engineering Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota, USA. He worked in Bell Laboratories and Honeywell (USA), served as VP in Samsung Electronics (South Korea), and is VP of the Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers and Chairman of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association.
After the opening ceremony, Mr. Kim shared that in 2017, he led a team to visit Quanzhou and learn about the local industry background. After some research, he was attracted by the strong manufacturing foundation here.
“Besides traditional industries such as clothing and shoes, there are many new industries such as integrated circuits and semiconductors. The variety of industries, the complete supply chain, the good development trend and the friendly entrepreneurial atmosphere attracted me a lot” says Mr. Kim.
At that time, Jinjiang government was carrying out declaration of high-level talent entrepreneurial teams and projects. After careful analysis and comparison, Mr. Kim believed that Quanzhou’s entrepreneurial support policy was quite beneficial. Besides that, the favorable industry and talent policies were very attractive to have a start with less pressure.
Later, his team selected IoT chips as the start-up direction, because Quanzhou was emphasizing the real economy development and China was expanding its integrated circuit industry.
“With the government support, our company has been developing steadily. Tape-out of the smart IoT switch chip will happen soon. We also expanded our development to chips for walkie-talkie MCUs, smart constant temperature insoles and so on. The cooperation with Huaqiao University also strengthened our research and development capacity. Currently, we cooperate with Quanzhou Wonderful LED Lighting, JOMOO and other companies to design more market-friendly chips.”
Quanzhou, a big city with private economy and a large number of overseas Chinese, has always attached great importance to the work of talents. Through the implementation of the BAY-HOME Recruitment Program of Global Talents, it has started the construction of the dream bay, a career bay and a life bay for talents, which adheres to the “come, stay and live well” concept and attracts international talents, projects and institutions.
“Compared with international metropolises, Quanzhou integrates the ancient with the modern, is able to make foreigners adapt better and becomes the dream bay one wants to stay in.” Regarding the future, Mr. Kim said: “We will exert our technology advantages to actively promote the development of our company, give back to society and contribute to the quality development of Quanzhou”.
